Fryer’s Cove Pinot Noir 2011

Shrinking violet.

The Fryer’s Cove vineyards are situated at Bamboes Bay on the West Coast 300km from Cape Town. The Sauvignon Blanc under this label is well known but there’s also a Pinot Noir. The 2011spent 11 months in a combination of new, second- and third-fill barrels and has a retail price of approximately R160 a bottle. I found it delicate, maybe too much so – nice red cherry flavour, bright acidity, no real tannic grip. Score: 15.5/20.
