“The normal population of St.-Tropez is 20 000. In season, it’s 90 000,” says Christophe Renard, a director of Domaines Ott, the south of France rosé producer owned by the Champagne Louis Roeder group.
Approximate retail price of a bottle of Domaines Ott Château de Selle Côtes de Provence 2010 is €27 but it gets marked up to €90 a bottle in beachside restaurants. Renard relates however, that the denizens of St.-Tropez prefer to order it in magnum at €270 a bottle or “jero” (jeroboam) at up to €900 a bottle for extra bling. It’s that kind of wine. You can get yours from The Reciprocal Wine Trading Company at R275 a bottle.
