Dirty Julie Verdelho 2012

Lewd content.

Verdelho made with minimal intervention can hardly be described as “everyday drinking” but if you’ve graduated beyond generic “dry white” and want something with a point of interest, check out Dirty Julie Verdelho 2012. Made by David Cope and Simon Wibberley, the guys who bought you the red blend known as Alphabetical, this is from grapes grown in the Swartland. It underwent natural ferment and spent nine months on the lees, so there’s quite a lot of secondary character. I found notes of marzipan and white peach. It has a broad mouthfeel and soft but sufficient acidity. Score: 15/20 and price: R55 a bottle. To order, email david@alphabetical.co.za.
