The accolades for DeMorgenzon Chenin Blanc just keep rolling in – 5 Stars for the maiden 2005 in Platter’s 2007, the 2009 placing among Wine Specator’s top 100 wines in 2011, the 2010 again 5 Stars in Platter’s 2013 and among Wine Enthusiast’s favourite wines of the year.
Last night the 2007. From vineyards planted in 1971, it was made by Chenin guru Teddy Hall. In colour, straw yellow with a green tinge suggesting a nice low pH. Very expressive on the nose and palate with notes of citrus, peach, apricot, some waxy character and spice. Very rich and ripe, thick in texture but this offset by bright acidity. Impressive but quite arduous. Score: 17/20.
