Cape of Good Hope Altima Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Chubby.

Altima Sauvignon Blanc 2012 (R85 a bottle) is part of the Cape of Good Hope Terroir Specific range from Rupert Wines. Wine of Origin Elandskloof, the vineyards situated north of Villiersdorp to be specific.

The wine’s claim to fame is that it won last year’s Bartho Eksteen Sauvignon Blanc Challenge and it’s pretty impressive with loads of lime and grapefruit, a great line of acidity and a long, dry finish. There’s a certain plumpness to the palate and I’m lead to believe that the residual is a technically off-dry 6.6g/l. “Expertly finished” reads the marketing bumf which suggests that a little grape juice concentrate has been added to soften terroir’s hard edges. Score: 16.5/20.

Over 14% abv, high RS, TA of almost 7g/l and extra-low PH entirely natural according to winemaker. A very imposing wine, of that there is no doubt.
