The white blend from Bizoe is called Henriëtta after winemaker Rikus Neethling’s mother and consists of 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. It underwent a spontaneous ferment and spent seven months in barrel with only 2 700 bottles made, recommended retail price R165 a bottle.
Rich and broad, there are notes of apricot and orange plus vanilla. Intensely flavoured with moderate acidity, I found it a bit roughhewn but arguably that’s part of the charm. Score: 16/20.
